Wheelchair capstone design
This was a special project for me, because I did it when I was in korea, during my exchange year. I was in a team of 4, with 3 korean students next to me. We wanted to improve the usability of a wheelchair, to prevent back pain and help people with certain disabilities that prevent them from using their abs. This was a fully mechanical project, with no electronics. My team has appointed me leader and together we designed a 4 bar linkage ratchet system. It allowed the user to have a controled and smooth movement in the first part of the mechanism and then to move quickly in the last part. We machined everything in the mechanical workshop that was availiable to us, used the lathe and mill to make axles and other parts required for the system. We also used a CNC mill the coupler for the ratchet.
This was a project that also teached me how to adapt to other people. It was my first major project leading a team, and more than that, leading a team of people from a different culture. I had to adapt to their way of working, and they had to adapt to mine. It was a great experience and I learned a lot from it.
