Computer graphics project
Age at the end of the project: 21
During the Introduction to computer graphics course, we first coded the basics in WebGL: ray tracing, lighting, meshes, procedural noise and environment maps. For the final project, my team of three built a procedurally generated floating city in Unity, with a flock of birds flying through it.
I wrote the 3D Wave Function Collapse algorithm that generates the city. Each building block has sockets on its six faces, and the algorithm only places blocks whose sockets match their neighbours, taking every rotation into account. The world is different every time, but always consistent. The birds follow the boids rules: separation, alignment and cohesion. I also made the camera movements used for the final video.
